Spanish Transition Program Page

Spanish Transition Program

The goal of the Spanish Transition Program is to teach the Spanish-speaking workforce in Maricopa County basic construction safety and electrical safety in Spanish, and to offer basic adult education classes for students who do not have a high school diploma or GED. The program will also give students basic construction-skills training and basic electrical-skills training in both English and Spanish. Upon completion of the one-year program, students will have the necessary trade language and trade skills required in order to enroll in and to succeed in English-only electrical craft-training and electrical apprenticeship programs.

The one-year Spanish Transition Program (two 4-month semesters) will consist of approximately 10 community college credits of instruction in basic adult education, English as a Second Language (ESL) training, basic construction safety and electrical safety training, basic construction-skills training, basic electrical-skills training, and "soft-skills" training. Tuition and registration fees for the program will be in line with current Maricopa Community College rates. Electrical safety and electrical-skills courses are credited by GateWay Community College in Phoenix. Program costs are $795 per semester (20 weeks of training).
