Apprenticeship vs. Craft Training
Return To Highlights
Formalized state and federal
apprenticeship programs include a wage progression pay scale and documented
On-the-Job Training (OJT) and related theoretical instruction. Programs are
competency-based, and can be completed as students master each level.
The residential electrical program
requires 4,000 hours of OJT and 288 hours of related instruction. Commercial &
industrial electrical programs require 8,000 hours of OJT and 576 hours of
related instruction.
Students can complete the related
instruction for the residential electrical program in 16-months, or the related
instruction for the commercial & industrial program in 31-months. Traditional
apprenticeship programs require 4-years to complete related instruction. The
related instruction for the advanced industrial program can be completed with an
additional 8-months of training. Credit towards apprenticeship completion can
be applied for previous related instruction or work experience.
All programs meet one night per week,
with additional field trips, seminars, and training sessions as scheduled.
Students who complete the apprenticeship program will receive their state and
federal certificates of completion.
We highly recommend the
apprenticeship program; however, some contractors may desire specific task
training or custom craft training programs for their employees. We will work
with you to make sure that your company's training objectives are being met.
