Essential of Leadership, Part 1

Program Overview:
The SouthWest Electrical Training Center is pleased to offer the PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning Essentials of Leadership Series. This interactive, computer-based training program will help advanced craftsmen, foremen, supervisors, and project managers to become effective leaders and managers.

This eight-topic (2-part) program uses examples from typical on-the-job situations to solidify key concepts. Topics range from the fundamentals of effective management—such as making the transition from worker to supervisor, how to  communicate clearly and make sound decisions—to more complex issues, like managing work teams and maintaining discipline.

Essentials of Leadership, Part 1

Managing Yourself
This program familiarizes trainee with techniques for making a smooth transition from worker to supervisor. At the completion of training, trainees will possess the ability to describe methods for starting off on the right foot as a new supervisor, as well as be able to describe how to use tools such as delegation and time management.

Managing A Work Group
Trainees will benefit from this program through learning techniques for building and maintaining a high-performance work group. Trainees will develop the ability to describe how to work with group members to se performance goals, provide reinforcement for good performance, and build employee involvement in group activities.

Clear Communication

This program will instruct trainees how to describe effective methods for improving listening skills, describe ways to ensure that listeners receive a message as the speaker intended, and describe techniques for effective giving and receiving feedback.

Interpersonal Communication
This program aids supervisors in applying the listening and speaking skills that are required for good interpersonal communication on the job. Issues covered range from the three basic levels of listening and effective nonverbal communication, to the common types of ineffective responses and the use of constructive feedback.
