Hey
everyone! Did you know that construction is the only career where you
can start out as a craft worker and in just a few years own your own
company? Just ask your friends who want to be bankers and see how many
can say that?! And construction lets you travel, work with lots of
people, and make lots of money! Sound interesting?
The construction industry
is the largest industry in the world, employing over 5.3 million
people--but it has more than 240,000 new jobs available each year! And
that means a BIG paycheck to you! Electricians can earn from $39,790 to
$66,170 per year!
Electricians plan the electrical systems for structures. They install
wiring and other electrical components such as breaker boxes, switches,
light fixtures, and telephone and television wiring. They must be
familiar with local and national codes.
Electricians must be carefully trained and safe because they can be
exposed to hazardous conditions and situations. In most parts of the
United States, electricians must become licensed. Electricians learn
their trade through craft and apprenticeship programs that are now offered by the
SouthWest Electrical Training Center. These programs
provide theoretical classroom instruction. Job referral services are
also offered so you can get paid while you learn the On-the-Job Training
(OJT) with experienced
electricians.
Training with the SouthWest Electrical Training Center is fun
and exciting! We use a lot of interactive multimedia training that
enables you to learn and remember more information than from traditional
instructor-based classroom settings. And it’s a lot more interesting
too!
The SouthWest Electrical Training Center uses the National Center for
Construction, Education and Research; and the Primedia Workplace Learning Interactive Craft
Training series. This CD-ROM-based training series uses full-motion
video, graphics, and animation to teach complex subjects that range from
how to read construction blueprints to alternating current and motor
theory. And every unit in the Interactive Craft Training series includes
activities and simulations to enhance the presentation and reinforce the
material in the program.
